For me…at least, seeing what’s possible for students that have gone through the exact same set of lectures, demos, activities, and projects really shows up when you see it in real student work.
These were all done by first semester freshmen in my intensive perspective course when I created this course for Ringling College of Art and Design. (A course that remains largely unchanged even though I’m no longer there!)
For those that don't know...
isometric perspective is a unique type of perspective that’s really helpful for planning out a layout or a map. In this course students use this layout as the set up for the soon to be installed final course of this series. Perspective and Lenses (working title) course.
In this case, students aren’t just drawing buildings, but they’re combining them with letter forms from specific fonts along with specific styles of architecture (if not specific buildings) into a new form.
I was always really impressed by the variety and complexity expressed by students in this project.
I put a whole bunch of these into the Isometric Diorama course and scattered them around the site where helpful.

It’s the kind of creative and student-tested project that comes from years of working with real students from around the world helping them achieve their goals.
