Peter is one of the best teachers I have encountered in my artistic career. As well as being a master of his craft, he is able to organise and convey his knowledge in a digestible manner for students. His lessons are fun, engaging and you walk away with an array of fundamental skills essential for reaching your artistic goals. With his guidance I gained confidence in composition, anatomy, lighting, concept and character design which I have been able to apply to my professional and personal work. I personally recommend Peter as a guide on your artist’s journey because he knows what he’s talking about, and shows you how to act on it.

I chose your class because I had heard great things about your teaching style and how much students grew as artists under your guidance. Going into the class, I hoped to improve my technical skills and learn how to convey more emotion and storytelling in my work. What I got out of it was so much more—I gained confidence in my creative process, discovered new techniques. Your patience, encouragement, and ability to break down complex ideas into manageable steps made it so much easier to stay on track and actually enjoy the process of learning.

What I loved about working with Peter is how down-packed his methodology is. He’s able to meet you exactly where you are on your artist’s journey, help set/reset a good foundation, and push you to build better structures on that foundation with concise (and usually very funny) critique. I personally recommend Peter as a guide on your artist’s journey because he knows what he’s talking about, and shows you how to act on it.

Peter’s class was essential in understanding the basics of light, perspective, and form. He breaks it down into lessons that are easy to follow and remember. The quality and speed that I can achieve in my storyboard and concept work is all rooted in the concepts taken from Peter’s class, and I further benefited from his advice on how to navigate clients and how to approach professional workstreams. Highly recommended! I personally recommend Peter as a guide on your artist’s journey because he knows what he’s talking about, and shows you how to act on it.

...I can honestly say I was not experienced in Art & Drawing but understood it would be a needed skills for my desired Career in Motion Design. When I took the class, Mr. Sakievich was very patient with me. The class was well structured to build the fundamentals of drawing, and instructions were clear and guided to help me be successful. I learned how to take his lessons and use them as building blocks for everything motion design related. Initially I was worried that I would not be able to excel in the class due to my lack of drawing experience, but the way Mr. Sakievich structured his classes offered more help and support to those who needed it, to push themselves to the next level.

Peter is a cool, very chill teacher. He gives you down-to-earth answers that we all need in this industry, whether it be animation, illustration, storyboarding, etc. Way back when I was a student at Ringling College of Art and Design, I technically didn't have him as a teacher but more as a friend. A good friend with great advice. And with all that advice and encouragement from Peter, I stepped up my game and eventually got eyes peering into my corner. So much though, that these past few months I got accepted into not one but two reanimated projects. 😃 So, yes!!! I highly recommend him as a professor! 👍✨️

Peter is beyond amazing. He is a real industry professional with working experiences in a lot of big name studios. Not only helping me to improve the foundational skills that I had been struggling with, like perspective, lighting and color, he also taught us how to apply it into our designs to enhance the storytelling. Working as a concept artist in the industry has always been my dream and now I am working in an AAA game company as a concept artist. Taking Peter’s classes is life-changing.

I had Peter's perspective & figure drawing my freshman year of pursuing a bachelor's in Motion Design. ...having a basic grasp on compositions, how perspective works, lighting directions & shading, all these drawing fundamentals are helpful for becoming a strong designer. Designers with backgrounds in drawing craft better compositions... Being able to tell a story using only visuals is also a very important skill for artists and animators, and Peter's sequential projects are a perfect introduction to the concept. Overall I'd highly recommend his courses if you wish to up your creative skills! Drawing fundamentals are universal for this industry, and Peter's humor is unmatched 🙂

Peter was a very patient instructor and very understanding when it came to teaching drawing fundamentals. From the projects tasked, I came to know other artist that would be inspiring such as Moebius (Jean Giraud) as well. All in all, whether you are a complete beginner or somewhat advanced, Peter will be able to help in every way. He is the most knowledgeable and dedicated person I ever know when it comes to drawing!

I chose Peter's class because I had heard great things about it and wanted to improve my drawing skills. His class exceeded my expectations, and I was very satisfied with the experience. I learned a wide range of techniques, from mastering perspective to shading methods like cross-hatching. Peter's relaxed and encouraging teaching style made the class enjoyable and helped me build confidence in my abilities. He also provided us with excellent resources and references, which introduced me to a variety of drawing styles and techniques. Overall, Peter's class was an incredible learning journey, and I am grateful for the skills and inspiration I gained from it.

former students' in-class work!

could you use the help of an experienced educator and professional artist?

Thanks for stopping by!

As a student one thing that really bothered me was the assumption that many teachers believed that I already understood key principles before showing up in a class.

The fact is, universities are too often built around each professor and class existing as a totally independent experience.

Sometimes in conflict with what helps students most!

It leads directly to a lot of inconsistency. Every chance I get, I work to smooth that out for students. But there’s always resistance from other professors.

I see the effect all the time when we need to spend extra time bringing students’ skill sets up at the beginning of a course just so we can have a conversation.

I can’t imagine how frustrating it is for you!

Wait…I had the exact same experience.

Luckily, You don’t have to worry about that here!

You get access to a linear progression system from simple concepts to more complicated, layered skill sets and thinking styles that add physical depth, emotion, and meaning to your work.

All of this put together by a single teacher who’s not only taught at 7 universities in multiple majors and across different levels, but also one who’s worked across professions as a concept artist, illustrator and gallery painter.

SADLYNot everyone nerds out the same way as I do about Perspective, Figure Drawing, Anatomy, Composition, etc.

Even though they’re invisible to your audience, these subjects are important, vital, actually.

They make your pictures “work”.

You don’t just get informational access to them in my courses, but you also apply the “invisible skills” to create real meaningful projects that are fun and deeply engaging! and that students, like you, became obsessed with.

And now…other professors complain that students spent far too much time on these projects than theirs!

Ultimately, I believe that if  I give students solid real experiences and worthwhile challenges, you will rise to exceed it.

I hope you’ll start your journey here!

Peter Sakievich

bad news...professional art school is criminally expensive now...

Math…

Let’s run some numbers from a couple universities. We’ll leave off their names as a professional courtesy, but let’s just say Peter’s taught at them before.

They were expensive then and are even more so now.

Criminally overpriced, actually.

(Why does he still teach at universities?)

“Well, I love teaching to build up budding professionals AND that’s where nearly all students still go. If that ever changes, I’ll consider other options.”

We won’t got into reasons why it’s gotten so expensive other than to say no one should be surprised when the incentives are so obvious.

Anyway….

Let’s run the numbers in US dollars for the 2023-2024 Academic Year as publicly listed on their websites.

Example University #1

  • $52,600.00 (annual tuition) + $5300.00 (fees) = $57,900.00 per year for two semesters. Seems like a lot…
  • Divide by 2 = $28,950.00 per semester
  • Divide that by 5 to get the number of courses… gets you…
  • $5790.00 for a single course (and you may not even get the good professor you want…)
  • This university has the usual 30 days per semester which is…
  • $193.00 per day in class
  • x20 students…. = $3860.00 “value” in the class per day… (pretty great profit margin for a non-profit!)

Example University #2

  • $41,130.00 (annual tuition) per year with 3 academic quarters. (fees are less clear, so the base cost may be much higher)
  • Divide by 3 = $13,710.00 per academic quarter
  • Divide by 3 for the number of courses per quarter gets you…
  • $4570.00 for a single course (and you may not even get a good professor…)
  • They have 20 in-class days per quarter which means you pay…
  • $228.50 per day of class
  • x20 students…. = $4570.00 of “value” in the class per day… (even though the annual tuition is “cheaper those profit margins are even higher for a non-profit!)

Is that a good investment?

By the way, NONE of this covers the necessary added rent(with multiple roommates), food, clothing, insurance, art supplies, software, computers/tablets, etc. if I’m not working (or even if I am..) while going to university full time.

This also assumes I’m paying up front and not taking out MASSIVE 3rd-Party federal government enforced student loans that will take 20-30 years to pay off (if ever…). Loans that even bankruptcy can’t give relief to.

Compare that to the daily cost of less than 50 cents a day to subscribe here.

$193.00 x 8 days of class per month equals $1544.00

$1544.00 to 1828.00 minus $14.99 is

$1529.01 to  $1813.01 of savings per month for a single class!

  • For the Semester based university that’s a savings of $28,890.04 per semester!
  • For the Quarter system college that saves me $13,650.04 per quarter!

Could I easily work a simple part time or full time job to cover all my living expenses and art materials and tech and even the occasional mentor easily?

“Nothing like this site was available for me as a student and it took me decades to pay off my Illustration BFA and Painting MFA.”

seems like a good deal, can I take a little look inside the course membership?

YES! Check out the short video to see what’s inside.

There’s also a 14 day 100% free trial period to try out everything before the subscription is charged.

I get instant access to a suite of lessons and materials to achieve the progress I’m looking for including…

Quick little click through so you can see how things look on the inside!

could you tell me a little more about the courses?

Of course!

Check out the cards below for a quick overview of the courses and resources contained in the membership!

There’s more to come too as the site gets updates.

Additionally…

included is a subscriber’s only home page that puts the courses in an easy to follow sequence. Each course has bite-sized modules and lessons that give the theory and practice for each and every principle being mastered.

Just enough information to move the follow-along project forward. Breaking it down this way makes it easy to know exactly what I learned and why it matters!

fun fact: the instruction here is so good, one professor ripped the videos from this site and is just playing them for instruction in class, not even demoing himself how to draw… another at that university asked to access the site temporarily to review some of the videos before starting up the semester.

and…what do they pay for each day they’re in class again?

Read below to find out more about all the current (and upcoming) courses.

some common questions

From what I’ve seen, purchased individually, and subscribed to since online education became common is that most if not nearly all online art education sites are designed as Master Classes. Courses that cover a specific method used by a professional artist limited to their style and profession. Often the subscription sites feature dozens of different artists, which can be confusing for a beginner.

They are extremely helpful when you are in the right place in your development, but if you’re a beginner (or a confused advanced student) they can get in your way. Often there’s a lot of underlying experience and knowledge (sometimes forgotten foundations…) that they don’t explain or assume others understand. This means that you may get a superficial good looking result, but you’ll spend a lot of time later filling in the gaps you didn’t know where there.

The courses on this site are built based on feedback from real students’ experiences with the material in the classroom. The layout assumes you have a lot of love for the arts but not a lot of structured experience. Students find that refreshing.

Additionally I’ve taught at multiple universities and different levels of students from Freshmen to Seniors. That helps me see where the gaps happen and how to prepare for them.

It also helps me give you the links across subjects and materials. How does perspective relate to figure drawing? How does still life drawing relate to painting landscapes? What principles unify white chalk drawings on black paper to 3D sculpting on your ipad?

Those links matter.

It’s very easy. I get instant access to all the currently available and upcoming self-guided courses for an easy to afford monthly or annual price. Each course was created with easy to follow and clearly demonstrated activities, concepts and projects. Each of those are divided into mostly bite-sized 15 minutes or less lessons to go over each concept one by one while also relating it to the whole course through activities and the applied projects. Also, there’s a sequence of courses that takes you from a very simple understanding to a much more complex ones. Students can also skip around and favorite lessons too, depending on what your interests are.

You get instant access to all available the courses created by me through the site.  Right now there are

  • 6 courses
  • 4 are sequential courses for freshmen college students
  • 2 are deep dives into artistic science of 1 and 2 point linear perspective
  • a growing resource library
  • MAP Monthly series
  • 70+ hours of instruction
  • 4150+ minutes of instruction

I have taught live online courses before through my universities and individually. None are currently available, but they could be in the future depending on interest level.

Individual coaching could also be an option.

If you’d like to work with me live in the classroom, I currently teach at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Communication Arts department as an assistant professor of concept design. We’re always looking for talented students to join us.

I have done this in the past, but its not currently available. I may bring it back on a limited basis depending on student interest. I do include examples of my work in the course materials to show general examples of how results work.

For now you can message me during live streams if you have questions and I should be able to help you out then.

Yes. The site has been tested on iPads and iPhones. Optimally I recommend using a desktop in order to benefit the most. Larger videos and images can really help, but mobile does work when you’re on the go!

Not a problem! Each course lists recommended materials and many with links to access them. Depending on the course, the specific medium may not matter, since the concepts or principles are the most important. I do have computer application or media specific (watercolor, marker, etc) demonstrations, but often substitutions can be used instead.

In short, No.

An important part of how the courses work is that they are paired with text assignments, lists, demo examples, student examples, etc.

Site based lessons also allow the courses to be updated based on student experience and feedback.

In the menu and account side bar is the Order History option. You cancel easily your subscription from there.

Are you a company or educational institution that could benefit from accessing this site for your students, faculty, employees etc? The course layouts were originally done using Canvas LMS and I still have the exported versions of those which have the day to day layout of lecture notes and activities for students.

The impact of these assignments and concepts on students were seen daily in their enthusiasm and completed projects.

Please contact me directly to see if what we can work out.
