How is myartprofessor.com different?

This is NOT a master class. Most online art courses are designed by an artist to learn a single skill and they're mostly for those who are already professionals.
Not beginner friendly (this is why your results never match theirs!) and they're often lacking the full context that gave the artist success.
They're great, I learn a lot from them! But more often than not they're not for beginners.
- My experience working with students shows it helps the most to start with very simple easy-to-follow steps to help combine foundational, expressive and technical skills together to make you more capable, rather than assuming that you already know everything. You can avoid needing to go back to fill in gaps that you didn't know about.
- Other courses also come from a single artist's point of view (which can be great!), but because it is their process and background that makes the work they do possible, they can miss why it doesn't work for others like it does for them.
- The courses and lessons assembled on myartprofessor.com were built with students in mind first and tested on them in the classroom. Changes were made to every project and activity based on observing student struggles, roadblocks, and through receiving and assessing student feedback.
- Most courses are created by those working with other professionals, many with years of experience in their field, not with freshmen students who just arrived in a classroom to learn real art skills for the first time. Pros can usually see how different sets of skills link to others and how to adapt someone else's special situation to their own. That's not helpful for beginners.
- Because I have taught at multiple universities, in a couple countries, across majors, freshmen through senior subjects and courses that use observational work, imaginative combinations and expressive works; I see how each of these things impact a student's growth. I link these different types of processes across media and markets and skill sets in ways that aren't theoretical, they're real. And that make a difference!
How does an online art course work?

- Most lessons are about 15 minutes or less and mostly cover one subject at a time.

What devices can access the website
Access the library of courses and lessons from any modern computer, tablet or mobile phone. Because the materials are art based, I recommend you use a desktop/laptop or larger tablet to access the site.
Phones can work, but are often too small to get the full experience you need to really access the information in the videos.
I'm a new artist, I'm not sure where to start!
Not a problem!
Everyone starts somewhere, because of my many years in the classroom I've taught a lot of beginners.
Start with the Foundations of Form class and then follow the rest in that series!
I assume that my students know nothing when they walk into my classroom.
I build all my courses to work the exact same way. I show you not only how to make expressive lines, but how to hold your tools, and many more really basic thing things that make a difference for the beginning art student.
Helps avoid shaky hands too!
Materials can be a challenge too.
So each course recommends materials and many have links where you can find them. Depending on the course, the specific medium may not matter, because the concepts or principles are the most important.
I do have computer application or media specific (watercolor, brushpen, microns markers, marker, etc) demonstrations, but often substitutions can be used.
